Sakanaya Izakaya: Experience Authentic Japanese Cuisine in West Lafayette

This was my second visit here all the way from Florida! The food is fantastically authentic. The presentation is phenomenal. The theming transports me right into a serene and bustling Japanese community space. I can tell how well the employees are taken care of well by how they interact with guests and each other. Especially Madison ;) she took great care of us! I can’t wait to come again!

This was my first time visiting this fabulous restaurant, and it was such a pleasant surprise! We went for lunch and were glad we made reservations—by the time we were leaving, the place was getting quite busy. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bento box, and the entire meal was absolutely delicious. It came with a generous assortment of edamame, dumplings, California rolls, chicken with rice, and a fresh salad. Everything was full of flavor and beautifully presented. I’m not the best with chopsticks, so eating rice with them was a bit of a challenge—but it made the experience even more fun and memorable. I was all for it! Our waitress was outstanding—friendly, professional, and very helpful. The service truly added to the overall experience. I’ll definitely be going back. What a wonderful restaurant! Highly recommended—give it a try! **I was so excited that I completely forgot to snap a photo of the meal before diving into the delicious dumplings and rolls—oops, they were just too good to wait!

Great comfort food for the winter time! The seafood udon, beef chahan, and hamachi kama were delicious. Thanks Jenna for her great service!

Ella was a great server who provided the appropriate amount of service and very kind. Husband and I enjoyed our time and our food here. The Mackey Arena roll was great. We would come back again!

Delightful experience and tremendous service! We LOVE Jason! Get the gyoza, get the sweet shrimp, stay for the incredible entrees.

My waitress, the blonde haired young lady, was very friendly, attentive, and sweet. She was on top of everything and worked extremely efficiently. The food was amazing. Something about that fried rice is so good I can't put my finger on it.

Spectacular experience! Best sushi I’ve ever had bar none. Varied menu (cheese corn and creamy udon were both new for us), perfectly presented and prepared. Sydney was an exceptional host: drinks always filled, always checking in, and great service!!!

Lindsey was an awesome server and she made me feel very welcomed here. I would go as far as to say she’s the best server i’ve ever had. She was kind, quick with our food, and made sure everything was okay. There couldn’t be a better server.
